Are you seeking clarity about life transition, purpose, direction, or meaning? Are you facing an
ambiguous or complex concern and wanting to listen to the depths of your own inner wisdom
within a caring community? Are you looking to engage in deep, soulful listening that supports
a deep connection with the Living Spirit?

The Quaker Clearness Committee is a process of individual and communal spiritual
discernment. In this retreat, you will learn a radically energized version of the Clearness Committee based on the work of Parker J. Palmer and the Center for Courage & Renewal.

Leave the retreat with a deeper understanding of the Clearness Committee to support your own
spiritual discernment, your meeting, your community.

Meet Your Facilitators

Valerie Brown is a Courage & Renewal® Facilitator prepared by the Center for Courage & Renewal. A consultant and principal of Lead Smart Coaching, LLC, specializing in leadership and mindfulness training, Valerie is a popular coach, retreat and pilgrimage leader, and author. She has written four Pendle Hill pamphlets, the latest of which is Coming to Light: Cultivating Spiritual Discernment through the Quaker Clearness Committees.

John Baird is a Courage and Renewal® Facilitator prepared by the Center for Courage and Renewal. John has been a teacher and leader in Friends education for more than 35 years. He has facilitated retreats in schools, meetings, and Quaker conference centers, developed reflective practices, mentored and nurtured leaders, and helped individuals and groups to discern and respond to their sense of vocation. He is a member of Durham Monthly Meeting in North Carolina, has a degree in Religious Studies, and enjoys writing, painting, singing, and walking in nature.
